"We put in good work tonight for our game against Charleston Southern. We're getting ready for next week's game on Thursday night. This upcoming game, we've got seven guys that won't be attending the game. Like I said before when I took the job at the University of Miami, we hold everybody to higher standards than most teams in the country. We have our rules and our regulations as far as academics, curfew, study hall, and doing the right things in the class room. We have some guys that won't be attending the game because of those reasons and we'll move forward."
Who will be the team's starting quarterback?
"Robert Marve will be our starting quarterback for the season. He will not be attending the game against Charleston Southern. We have two great quarterbacks. The competition was great between the two guys. They did a great job of competing and getting this team ready to play. Jacory Harris will play in every game this season but Robert Marve will be the starter. We will not have a controversy. If a guy like Jacory goes in and has a tremendous game, Robert Marve will still be that starter. We've got to build depth at the position and I've always said that. Some people may think this is a harsh decision for this university because I'm such a stickler about doing the little things. One thing I do know, if you forget about the little things, they add up to big things and that causes problems for your team. As I said, we're going to build a championship team. We're going to do it the right way. We're going to keep enforcing those things to make us a better team, a better program, and do things the right way. Like I said before, some schools may not be as harsh as we are but that's the University of Miami. That's the standard we take."
Why did you wait until the last couple of days to tell Robert Marve about the suspension?
"Because I wanted him to have a competiton. To compete like normal."
Is it frustrating to have to deal with this at the start of the season?
"No, not at all. It's part of coaching. It's part of football programs. They always have downs and ups. You can't do much when it's spring football. You can't do much when guys are red-shirted during the season. You have to take control of it when you have the opportunity to address those issues and you do it."
When you say the players won't attend, do you mean they won't be in the stadium?
"They'll be at the game but they won't play in the game."
Does Robert Marve's confidence get a boost knowing that he's the starter every week?
"Robert's a very confident kid and Jacory's a very confident kid. Marve came out today and was on scout team. He did some scout team work but also cheered Jacory on like he did all camp. That's one of the greatest things about this team. We have two guys that really cheer each other on all the time."
Does it worry you that Robert Marve's first game will be on the road against Florida?
"Not at all. We have a lot of confidence in what he's going to do. I know it's the first game and it's The Swamp but somebody has to go there and be their first game. We have these two guys that have been in championship situations. Even though it was high school, they're very tough situations. Sometimes when you've been in those situations, you know how to handle it. I think those two guys will do a great job."
Will Cannon Smith get as much time as Jacory would when he is number two?
"No. Cannon is our number three quarterback. Marve is our number one and Jacory is our number two but Jacory will play a lot in games even though Marve is the starter."
"They're still out for right now."
What about Jermaine McKenzie?
"McKenzie is still practicing. He's okay. The only guy who is definitely out is Tommy Streeter. He's definitely out. The guys that won't play in games are Josh Holmes and Ben Jones. Those guys won't play."
How long are the suspensions for?
"They're one game suspensions."
