Dixon: Coach Young has a good plan

Antonio Dixon is one of the veteran defensive linemen expected to lead the Canes front four this weekend against Florida. The senior defensive tackle will have some help with starting defensive ends Eric Moncur and Allen Bailey returning to action just in time to play the Gators. Read on to see what Dixon had to say about taking on one of Miami's biggest rivals.

How big is this game for you guys?

"It's a real big game. We've go to take it one game at a time. We didn't try to look ahead when we were playing Charleston Southern but now it's the week to prepare for Florida. We're prepared, we're ready and we're bringing out all the stops."

Do you feel like you need to face an opponent of this caliber to find out where you stand as a team?

"I think we do. Watching on ESPN, they don't give us any credit because we went 5-7 but I feel this is a whole different team. We've got a lot of leaders on this team that are seniors and a lot of freshmen that are going to play. It's going to be a real good game."

Do you feel like Miami has something to prove?

"Yeah, I feel like we have something to prove. The last time we were ranked was I don't even know when. It's going to be a big game for us."

What do you know about Florida's spread offense?

"They are in the spread a lot but Coach Young's got a good plan for them. I think we're going to be alright."

Eric Moncur's mom passed away recently. How is he doing and is he going to be able to concentrate this weekend?

"He's doing good. I think he'll be able to concentrate. I mean you will always have losses but we all talked to him. I think he's going to be alright. We called him and texted him every day so I think he's going to be alright."

You guys will be going toe to toe with Tim Tebow this weekend. Does facing the reigning Heisman Trophy winner give you guys more motivation?

"A lot more motivation because before the season there were doubts about the two tackles and who was starting on the defensive line. I just want to play and show how we can stop the run."

What do you think about Tebow as a player?

"He's a good athlete. I'm going to give credit where credit is due but at the same time I've got a job to do, the D-line has a job to do and the whole team has a job to do and that's contain him. I think we're going to be alright."

He's not your typical quarterback. He goes up against linebackers and runs through them. Does that worry you guys at all?

"Man we play for the University of Miami. He's been able to do that to other teams but we're a different team this year. I'm confident we'll be able to stop him."

Was it good to see all the young guys play the other night against Charleston Southern?

"Oh yeah. Seeing DJ (Davon Johnson), Pimp (Thearon Collier), and Brandon (Harris) because I'm from Booker T., and Marcus (Forston) and Sean (Spence) out there making big tackles. It was real nice to see. I think it'll be a good season for the young guys."

Have you tried to take Marcus Forston under your wing and shown him how to play defensive tackle in college?

"He's been around because I played with his brother. I've known him for a long time. Since he got here he started asking questions. I took him under my wing like a little brother. He's going to be the real deal."

What was Thursday's game against Charleston Southern like for you?

"I was just happy to play. I missed football. We haven't been to a bowl game in a while. Everyone's hungry to go to a bowl game. We're taking it one step at a time."

What do you think it's going to feel like when you get in the backfield for the first time and Tim Tebow is just a few feet away from possibly a big hit?

"I mean the first play you always have butterflies. That happens to everybody. He bleeds like I bleed. He's a man and I'm a man. When we get there we're just going to have to play."

There's a lot of talk about the speed of Florida's offense. Do you think the Hurricanes defense can run with them?

"We're faster. That's all I have to say about that. We're faster."
