Phillips: This game's personal

Randy Phillips was recruited by Florida coming out of high school and he's now a senior. Phillips is looking forward to the big game tomorrow night and talked about what it means to the team, the keys to beating Florida, the motivation involved, and more.

On teammate Spencer Adkins
Spencer Adkins has always been a guy we know would get the job done. He has the speed and physical ability. We knew he'd rush the passer and do different things, so Coach Young being the great mind that he is found a role for Spencer Adkins and now he is succeeding.

On former teammates giving advice…
I talked to Kenny (Phillips) he just told me to go out and to not to do anything that is uncharacteristic because the team that does that loses.

On motivation in the locker room…
(We have it) for every game. Guys are taking this one more personally. Some of the guys have relationships with guys on the team, they know the players and they take it personally because they are an in-state rival and all. The same thing versus Florida State and Virginia Tech. We put it up quotes and stuff that is said in the newspaper or in the media because a lot of guys throw dirt. That is apart of their game plan, it isn't apart of our game plan.

On Anthony Reddick's quote earlier in the week ("UF needs to worry about our speed…")…
Every game. We can't adjust to anyone, no matter what. We are going to go out and execute our game plan, that is our motto. It doesn't matter who it is. We are going to dictate what goes on in the game. When we don't dictate it will be a long night for the defense.

On re-establishing reputation…
That is what people on the outside say. Win, lose, or draw we are going to go on to the next week and get into ACC play and we are going to keep fighting and keep going hard. It is just a game. This game is for the fans. We take it personally, too. But if we lose we aren't going to hang our head. We are going to go out the next week and keep bringing it every week. In the very end, Miami will be successful.

On the key to the game against Florida
Not to go out and do too much. Not try and go out and over play. Not try and go out there and make plays for the next person, just go out and do your job. Keep football simple. Don't go out thinking 'oh, this is the Florida game, running around telling yourself you have to make a play.' That is how you forget about what you have to do because you are trying to make all of the plays.
