Earl Everett Talks Recruiting

One of the nation's top overall prospects is one game away from leading his team to its best season ever. In the meantime, the recruiting process is starting to heat up and he provides all the latest updates.

At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, Webster (Fla.) South Sumter standout linebacker Earl Everett is on the verge of doing something that nobody at his school's ever done - make a state championship appearance.

Everett's Raiders are just one game away after knocking off Umatilla last Friday night.

"This is the third year in a row we've been to this point in the playoffs," Everett said. "Now it's time to take it to another level and make history."

Everett, a full academic qualifier, said the recruiting process is starting to heat up as well.

"I'm trying to put all that stuff behind my until after the season but that's tough," he said. "I did have a chance to go to the Florida State/Florida game last Saturday. It was awesome."

Everett has now been to a big game in each of the three major in-state stadiums. He was asked which one he enjoyed the most.

"They all are great places," he said. "I'd say the best looking girls are in the Orange Bowl, though (laughing)."

Everett hosted an in-home visit from an LSU coach on Monday night and he has three more scheduled over the next two weeks.

"I talked to the coach from FSU tonight and he said Bobby Bowden is going to be coming real soon. Coach Zook and Thompson are supposed to be coming and Coach Hargreaves is scheduled to be here next week. I'm trying to see if my mom and dad can be here with me when they come."

Everett said he's still considering the three Florida schools along with LSU, Nebraska, and South Florida.

"It's going to be nice because I'm going to take all three of the visits right after one another. I go to Florida on January 17, then Miami, then Florida State."

Everett was asked if any of those schools have the advantage.

"Florida and Miami are still my top two," he said. "I'm going to take those visits, talk everything over with my family, then make a decision around signing day. It's not going to be easy."

So what does mama think?

"She just thinks I should be a linebacker," he said laughing. "She wants me to be the one hitting people instead of the one being hit."
