Florida DB makes commitment

Kayvon Webster is one of the top cornerback prospects in the state of Florida this year and the Miami (Pace) standout has made his college decision. He talked about that and more with Scout.com.

When Kayvon Webster landed a scholarship offer from the hometown Hurricanes back in June, he was very excited and thought about making a commitment to the Canes.

Fast forward almost four months and the talented cornerback prospect has made a decision.

"I just committed to UM," Webster said. "It's a soft commitment though. You can list me as a soft verbal because I still wanna talk to Coach Lang and LSU about setting up a visit to go there. Even though I'm committed, I still wanna take some other visits."

Webster, 6-feet and 180 pounds, talked about why he decided to pull the trigger for the Hurricanes.

"I hear from them a lot," he said. "I have a good relationship with the coaches. They're on the rise. They're better this year and I don't think they're too far from being a great team again. And they have a weak point in the defense right now so I know I could go in there and get some early playing time."

Webster had close to 20 scholarship offers, including schools like Florida, South Florida, and South Carolina. He's been playing on both sides of the ball this season -- wide receiver and linebacker.

"I play linebacker because that's where my coaches want me," he said. "I can be more effective for us there."

Webster, who carries a 3.0 GPA inside the classroom, has 13 catches for 130 yards and one touchdown. On defense, he has about 20 tackles at linebacker.
