UM Heating up Interest for DL

This prospect is a full academic qualifier and has 75 tackles and 21 quarterback sacks in 13 games this season. He talks about how recruiting is heating up for him.

At 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, Miami (Fla.) Northwestern standout defensive tackle Cliff Dickson has helped his team reach the state semi finals for the second year in a row. The Bulls will play Norland Friday night to determine who plays for the Class 6A state title.

"We ready," Dickson said. "We had a good week in practice and I think we'll be OK. We just need to limit the number of big plays their two wide receivers can make. They haven't lost yet when [Dwayne Bowe] is playing."

Dickson, a full academic qualifier, has 75 tackles and 21 quarterback sacks in 13 games this season.

On the recruiting front, things are heating up for the standout lineman, especially with the local program.

"Miami's been calling more and more," he said just minutes before Randy Shannon called him. "I've talked to Randy Shannon and Larry Coker. They're keeping up with my season and talking about my visit there."

So what are Dickson's thoughts on the Hurricanes?

"They tight," he said. "They have a great program and it's right down the road. Plus, they're losing a lot of d-linemen and that gives me a good chance to play. I like what they're doing and they're about to become national champs again."

Dickson, who hosted in-home visits with N.C. State and Florida State on Wednesday night, will be taking his first official visit this weekend.

"I'm going up to N.C. State this weekend," he said. "I have Maryland for the first weekend in January, Florida State for January 10, then Ohio State for January 17. Rutgers, Minnesota, Florida, they're all trying to get the last visit."

Dickson, who claims scholarship offers from all of his favorites, was asked about a favorite.

"I like 'em all," he said. "Miami, all of them. I like Miami a lot. But I'm trying to concentrate on winning the state title first and then I'll worry about the rest of that stuff."
