Sunday with Randy

Randy Shannon addressed the media today, one day after Miami's 24-17 win at Virginia. CanesTime.com was there, so read on to see what he was saying.

After film review:

-Very disappointed with the penalties, especially with the illegal procedures and penalties with that ilk. The coaches will go back to the take and see why they happened in such an abundance.

-Reggie Youngblood came in and played well. The line in general played pretty good, despite the loss of Jason Fox for the game.

-LaRon Byrd's game winning catch was praised by Shannon. He showed patience and ball skills despite being interfered with twice before making the reception. Also noted that despite Virginia linebacker Clint Sintim being all over Jacory Harris on the throw, Jacory's "strength" is underrated and he was able to make the throw. Despite a lean physique, Harris is considered very strong in the weight room.

-The Hurricanes play very well when the ball is spread around. Ten different players caught passes from 'Cane quarterbacks in Saturday's win. Six of them were first year players.

-Javarris James and Graig Cooper were also praised for their running on Saturday.

-On the Travis Benjamin fumble: "It was just a mistake"...Shannon noted the staff continued to show confidence in him by not taking him out.

-Lovon Ponder was praised for his play, especially in stripping the football to seal the game for the Hurricanes. Shannon noted he had been attempting to strip the football all game and it finally paid off.

-Sam Shields got his number called on a critical play on the game winning drive and was praised upon for his play there as well as on special teams. He was credited for many of the fair catches called.

-Allen Bailey's sack late in the game which knocked Virginia out of field goal range was considered a big play in the game.

Team News:

-The Hurricanes will take a few days off as they enter an IDLE week. They will play Virginia Tech two Thursdays from now in the team's final home game of the season.
