McClinton's 17 Help Canes Beat Barry

The University of Miami men's basketball team finished its exhibition season with a victory over the Barry University Buccaneers 76- 43. Star guard Jack McClinton led all scorers with 17 points on 6 for 11 shooting.

The Baltimore native with seemingly endless range did damage behind the arc making three of five three point attempts. McClinton played some point guard in addition to his usual off guard work and dished out three assists and had three steals.

Brian Asbury chipped in with 13 points off the bench. The senior forward converted three of his four three-pointers and did some work in the paint as well. Asbury collected six rebounds and had two blocks and a steal.

Another impressive performer was Miami big man Cyrus McGowan. The transfer from Arkansas had nine points on some impressive dunks as well as picking up five rebounds and a block.

Sophomore Edwin Rios struggled with his shooting in his second start in place of the injured Lance Hurdle. The lefty point guard went 1-6 from the field including a 0-2 performance from three point range. Rios did pick up seven assists and four rebounds but he also committed four turnovers. The Miami native will need to step up his game in the absence of Hurdle.

The Hurricanes played sloppy basketball for most of the game committing 18 turnovers but overcame their mistakes and forced the Bucs to make some mistakes of their own. Taking an 11 point lead into the locker room at half time, Miami made some adjustments and were able to increase their lead and pull away for the 33 point victory.

The Canes are in action again on Saturday, November 15 when they open regular season play against the Florida Southern Moccasins. The game tips off at 7:30 PM from the BankUnited Center .
