At 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, Miami (Fla.) Northwestern standout defensive tackle Cliff Dickson took his first official visit of the year this past weekend when he went to N.C. State.
"It was straight," Dickson said. "The thing that I liked the most was how they're like one big family there. It's got the whole family atmosphere thing going on there and I liked that. I hung out with a bunch of cats from down here [in south Florida]. It was tight."
The standout defensive lineman saw his season come to an end last Friday night.
"We just lost," he said. "We gave it everything we had. It was tough because it's the second year in a row that we had a team that we thought was good enough. But it was the Norland receivers. They were the difference. No. 80 [Dwayne Bowe] did a lot. He was big, he was fast, and he was ballin out there."
Dickson is now awaiting in-home visits this week from UM coach Randy Shannon as well as coaches from Florida State.
"Coach Shannon's coming here this week," Dickson said. "Florida State said they're coming by too. "I'm leaving Friday for a visit to Rutgers for the weekend. I'll see what they all about."
Dickson, who is a full academic qualifier, said he was glad to see the Hurricanes make it through another perfect regular season.
"Man, they good," he said. "I can't remember the last time they lost. They're going to win it again, you watch. Next year, they'll just reload with new guys."
Dickson also has visits scheduled to Maryland (Jan. 3), Florida State (Jan. 10), and Ohio State (Jan. 17).
"It's going to be out of UM, Rutgers, N.C. State, Ohio State, Maryland, and Florida State," he said. "Me and Leo [Waiters] are going to take some trips together. He likes UM too. I'm thinking about just taking an unofficial visit there when they have a lot of guys in, but I'll probably end up taking one of my official visits there."
Dickson is scheduled to play in the Cali-Florida Bowl on Jan. 4.
