Standout DL High on UM

This talented defensive lineman took his first official visit last weekend and talks about it. He also talks about why UM is high on his list.

At 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, Miami (Fla.) Carol City standout defensive end Eric Moncur was nearly unblockable in the games he played in this season.

"Without that kid, we win by two touchdowns," one opposing coach who lost to Carol City said about him.

Despite missing five games because of a shoulder injury, Moncur finished the season with 65 tackles and eight sacks.

A full academic qualifier, Moncur took his first official visit last weekend.

"I went up to North Carolina State and had a fun trip," he said. "They're doing real good things with their program and it's a place I can fit into."

Moncur said he had been scheduled to take his second visit this weekend.

"I was supposed to visit Rutgers this weekend but I don't think I'm going," he said. "I might take it later. Me and Ali [Highsmith] are going up to Ohio State together on January 10 and then I go down to UM on the 17th. The last one is still open."

Moncur, who is considering Florida and Georgia for that last visit, said he's still high on the Hurricanes.

"They're the hometown team, you know," he said. "They have everything going for them and they're showing interest in me so I'm definitely interested. I'm going to take these trips to see what happens."

Moncur said he'll be watching the Fiesta Bowl next month.

"Yeah, that's two teams on my list," he said. "It should be a great game. We'll see how well Ohio State matches up and if UM can repeat."
