Canes set to host big recruiting weekend

The Hurricanes haven't hosted an official weekend in over a month and so a lot of players will be visiting over these final two recruiting weekends. This week is huge so lets take a closer look at the recruits who are expected to be on Miami's campus this weekend.

3-star QB commit A.J. Highsmith, 6-0, 180, Sugerland (Texas) Hightower -- One of Miami's first commitments for the Class of 2009, Highsmith is the son of former Hurricane great Alonzo Highsmith. Highsmith led his team to the Class 5A state championship game in the state of Texas this year and was the Team MVP. He picked the Hurricanes over Oklahoma State and Houston and this will be his first and only official visit. Highsmith is being recruited by Tommie Robinson.

4-star OT prospect Marcus Hall, 6-5, 295, Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville -- Considered by many to be the most important of all the incoming recruits this weekend because he plays a position of such need, Hall is widely considered one of the nation's best. He played in the U.S. Army All-American Game and was a 5-star player for most of the year. He's already taken visits to his two other finalists, Ohio State and Michigan. While the Canes will have their hands full trying to convince him to leave his home state of Ohio or even the Midwest Region, this will be his first time in Miami and we'll know a lot more about his interest level following the visit. He's had the Canes in his top three since the beginning of the process. Hall is being recruited by Jeff Stoutland.

3-star OT commit Cory White, 6-5, 250, Orange Park (Fla.) Fleming Island -- A spring commitment to the Hurricanes, White was in the 220-pound range at the time of his pledge. He now says he's up around 250 and is considered an excellent tackle prospect. Miami was the first BCS School to offer him a scholarship and he never considered or visited anyone else. White is being recruited by Clint Hurtt.

3-star OT prospect Malcolm Bunche, 6-6, 320, Newark, Del. -- A talented big man who could play either guard or tackle at the college level, Bunche took an unofficial visit to Miami last summer with his mother. Bunche came away very impressed but very surprisingly committed to Rutgers a couple weeks later. He later backed off that commitment and said his final decision will come down to Rutgers and Miami. His mother lives in Jacksonville and his father played in the NFL. We believe there's an excellent chancce that Bunche will add his name to the commitment list following the weekend. Bunche has been recruited by Coach Stoutland and Micheal Barrow.

3-star OG commit Jared Wheeler, 6-5, 305, Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage -- One of Miami's most recent commitments, Wheeler announced for the Canes earlier this month. One of the state's top offensive line prospects, Wheeler had over 20 scholarship offers but narrowed things down when he also took official visits to Auburn and Vanderbilt. He carries a 4.0+ GPA inside the classroom and played in the state all-star game last month. Wheeler has been recruited by Coach Stoutland.

2-star DE prospect Shayon Green, 6-2, 225, Tifton (Ga.) Tift County -- A recent addition to the visit list, Green was offered by the Hurricanes recently despite having been committed to Purdue for the last few months. Those are the only two schools he's still considering and we believe a good visit this weekend will put the Hurricanes in good position to land this talented Georgia standout. He's been recruited by Coach Barrow and Coach McGriff.

3-star LB prospect Sam Barrington, 6-2, 210, Jacksonville (Fla.) Terry Parker -- One of the state's top linebacker prospects, Barrington was offered by Miami last month after they evaluated his senior highlight tape. He had over 1,000 yards from the running back position and over 100 tackles on defense. He played in the state All-Star game following the season. Barrington took 2008 official visits to South Florida, Purdue, and Illinois before scratching Purdue from his list. He's down to UM, USF, and Illinois and will be visiting Miami for the first time. We believe the Canes are in great shape to land Barrington and a good visit could wrap it up. He has an announcement party set up for the day before signing day on Feb 4. Barrington has been recruited by Coach Hurtt.

3-star CB commit Kayvon Webster, 5-11, 180, Miami (Fla.) Monsignor Pace -- Another early season commitment for the Hurricanes, Webster picked Miami over a host of others including LSU, South Florida, West Virginia, and more. He played on both sides of the ball at Pace -- receiver and linebacker -- but is being recruited to play corner because of his speed and skill set there. Since his commitment to the Canes, he's taken official visits to USF and West Virginia but plans to wrap things up this weekend. We believe the Canes are in excellent shape to hold onto his commitment. Webster has been recruited by Coach Hill.
