Stoutland impresses OL on visit

Malcolm Bunche is a talented offensive line prospect from Newark, Del., who committed to Rutgers last summer. He backed off that commitment during the season and took December visits to both Rutgers and Maryland. He took his third and final visit to Miami this weekend and talked to Scout.com about all the latest.

"It was great," Malcolm Bunche said of his weekend visit to Miami. "It was another experience. I had lots of fun hanging out with some of the recruits and some of the players, it was a great experience."

Bunche, 6-foot-6 and 320 pounds, is a three-star offensive line prospect who had previously taken trips to Rutgers and Maryland. Bunche said this one stood out to him a little more.

"All of the visits are the same, but I mean this one was a good one, a great one, I had a lot of fun."

Bunche was hosted by Orlando Franklin and the two had some good football conversations over the weekend.

"Big O has a good football IQ for an offensive linemen," he said. "Sometimes we talked about offensive schemes and we talked about Coach Stoutland and Coach Shannon. He was a great host. We have a lot in common. He's a cool dude."

Bunche was one of eight official visitors to UM over the weekend and he talked about the experience of hanging out with all of them.

"Aw man, we had a blast," he said. "Me, Marcus Hall, Cory White, A.J. Highsmith, we had a ball. We were cracking jokes, laughing, we had a good time. Sometimes we had to get our minds off of football and just got to walk around talking, we had a ball."

In addition to all the fun times Bunche had, he also had a chance to get serious with the coaches and figure out how he'd fit into the program.

"When it was time to get down to business, Coach Stoutland, he coaches very well, and there were times when we played around and had fun and joked around," he said. "But when it was time to talk football we talked about football, we talked about scheme and run and pass blocking, showed us some pictures of what they did on the football field. I learned a lot from Coach Stoutland."

The talented big man, whose father (who played in the NFL) was also on the visit, said things are even between his three finalists.

"Right now I'm considering Miami, Rutgers, and Maryland," he said. "To tell you the truth, there's really no 1, 2, 3, because you know you can't go wrong with any of those schools. They all have great programs, coaches, coordinators, great prospects coming in who are committed so they have great athletes, they are very organized, so it's going to be tough to choose."

Bunche said there wasn't any talk of the new offensive coordinator position currently open and said he plans on announcing his final choice on national signing day next Wednesday.
