Q&A with Arthur Brown

Arthur Brown came to the University of Miami last year with very high expectations. He was the nation's No. 1 rated linebacker coming out of high school and didn't play much his first year. Read on to see what he's saying about spring practice so far, his position change, his thoughts on the new defense, how he handled the pressure last year, and more.

Q: How is spring going so far?
A: Spring's going great. We got a new defensive system in. It's all about getting in the film room and coming out here to the practice field ready to learn.

Q: How much are you striving for that No. 1 spot?
A: You know, we all come out here with a chance to better ourselves. I try to strive for that number one spot. That's what I'm trying to do.

Q: Was last year disappointing at all not being able to play much?
A: Not really. The best player is gonna get on the field. I gotta step up and do my best to help my teammates.

Q: How was the pressure of being the No. 1 recruit coming in?
A: It was a lot of pressure but you have to expect it. I expect a lot from myself. It didn't hinder me. I was just adapting to a new system and that's what I'm doing now. I'm learning how to accept change.

Q: Talk about playing in the middle now.
A: The biggest difference is that it's more downhill. You play the run more. Right now I'm working on putting on weight to handle the load down the middle. I guess they wanted to try me in the middle. I played both in high school.

Q: What's your current weight?
A: Right now I'm 215. I'm trying to get up to 225. I was 210 last year.

Q: Talk about the progress you've made.
A: There are a lot of challenges when you're going through this process. You gotta stay positive. I'm feeling good about myself and the progress I'm making.

Q: Have you been able to work on your technique a lot?
A: I got a lot of technique work in last year. Some things are a little difference. I'm feeling good about that this year. I'm a better tackler.

Q: Talk about the new defense.
A: You just gotta adapt to a new scheme. You just gotta do your part for your team.
