DL Almost Ready

At 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, Miami (Fla.) Northwestern standout defensive lineman Cliff Dickson is getting ready to play in next Monday's Dade/Broward all-star game. I caught up with Dickson just after practice tonight.

"I just got back from practice," he said. "It's tight out there. Me and [teammate Trenayne Sills] will be ballin."

Dickson said the Dade County defensive line will likely be one of the team's strengths.

"The guy from Braddock [Tranell Morant] has been doing good," he said. "Hopefully we can dominate."

Dickson was in California earlier this month for the Florida all stars.

"We had so much fun out there," he said. "I met a lot of good guys. They had us doing all kinds of stuff."

On the recruiting front, Dickson took an official visit to Florida State this past weekend.

"That was fun up there too," he said. "I hung out with Reggie Nelson and one of his teammates [Joe Cohen] up there. We was just talking about different stuff, you know. But Florida State was fun, that's a good situation."

Dickson will finish up his official visits this weekend.

"I'm going to UM this week then I'm done," he said. "Me and Leo [Waiters] are going down for our official visit. We've already been there and know what it's like but our visit's this weekend."

When asked about a favorite, Dickson offered up an interesting comment.

"Yeah, it's probably....well, I don't know," he said. "It's probably out of Miami or someone else. I'll announce where I'm going after that."

The standout defensive tackle said he likes the opportunity available at Miami.

"They're losing both their starters at tackle and they need some guys," he said. "If I go there, I can help out."

Dickson said teammate Leo Waiters is also closing in on a decision.

"He's going to either Miami or Florida," he said. "We'd like to go to the same school."

Dickson did offer up another interesting comment on another player.

"I wanted to go up against [Andrew] Bain," he said of the week in California. "I had heard a lot about him and he turned out to be pretty good."
