"Xavier's at a basketball game right now," said his father Victor on Tuesday night. "But maybe I can inform you of what's going on with my son."
Mr. Kennedy provided the latest update.
"He's been on recruiting visits to [Texas] A&M, Oklahoma, and Arkansas," he said. "He really enjoyed all three of those places. He had a nice visit and he likes the coaching staffs there and sees it as a good opportunity. He hasn't ruled any of those schools out just yet."
The talented defensive tackle will be making his final two visits over the next two weekends.
"He's going to the University of Florida this weekend by himself," he said. "I was going to go with him but I needed a break from all of this (laughing). It's been very hectic lately with everyone calling, setting visits up, meeting with Xavier and all the other stuff that goes along with the whole process. Then the following weekend he'll make his final visit to the University of Miami."
Mr. Kennedy spoke more about the Hurricanes.
"Xavier's always had an interest in them," he said. "And everyone knows they're losing a lot of guys off their defensive line, including both starters."
The Hurricanes have already offered a scholarship to Lawson Kennedy and will be visiting with him later this week.
"I actually spoke to Coach Larry Coker," he said. "He said they're going to be sending someone out, although I can't remember exactly which coach it is that they're sending. Miami needs guys at defensive tackle and they like the way Xavier plays with his size, feet, and hands. They said it's a combination they like."
Mr. Kennedy said his son has also been receiving phone calls from other top recruits lately.
"It's amazing how these kids stay in contact each other," he said. "It's like they live right next door (laughing). He talks to guys like Jarvis Moss, Jorrie Adams, and a kid named Moe Dampeer that Xavier saw at the all star game has talked to him. They're all just talking to each other about where they're going to school."
Moss and Adams are both high on the University of Texas.
"Xavier's not really interested in them," he said. "He's talked to Mack Brown and those guys and it's just not going to work out. They have a boatload of defensive tackles already. And I think Moe's probably going to end up at Oklahoma so maybe they talked about becoming Sooners together, I don't know."
So how much interest does Lawson Kennedy have in coming to Florida for college?
"I know he's really looking forward to those next two visits," Mr. Kennedy said. "The entire coaching staff at Florida has been real good to him and answered all his questions. With Miami, I'll probably go out there with him to see what it's like because he's very interested in them as well and he knows he can help them early on."
Mr. Kennedy said his son will likely make a final decision shortly after his visit to Miami.
"He told me he'll be ready after Miami," he said. "We're going to sit down and go over everything as a family and figure out what's best for him. It doesn't matter to me as far as location, just as long as he's happy and he's getting a fair shot. That's all I want. I want to see him happy. I know signing day is the 5th but he's getting so tired of everything that he told me that he'll probably have a decision ready before that."
