LB Talks Recruiting

At 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna standout linebacker Glenn Cook met with UM linebackers coach Vernon Hargreaves earlier today.

"He was basically asking me if I'm ready to come down and all that," Cook said. "He said they're trying to finalize what they're doing at linebacker."

So what might that include?

"We talked about some other guys," Cook said. "He said he met that cat Earl [Everett] yesterday and feels pretty good about it. I guess he's down to Florida and Miami."

Cook said Everett was one of the players he hung out with on his trip to California earlier this month.

"It was a lot of fun hanging out with all those guys," he said. "I was with Bowe, Ernie Sims, Bryan Pata, Beason, and Earl. Also a kid named Mike Walker. It was tight getting to know them like that and where everyone might be going."

Cook commented on the play and thought process of some of those players.

Everett - "He's a real good guy. He was real quiet at first but then was clowning people. I was telling him about how Miami's losing a bunch of linebackers after next year and they're going to need some guys to step in."

Bowe - "Not many people knew much about him because he hasn't been playing long but he was ballin all week."

Sims - "He's the best running back I've ever seen. Tyrone Moss is good but Sims is awesome. He just runs people over and has good instincts on the run. He just needs to develop some more breakaway speed."

Pata - "I heard about him not being able to play this year but you were right. I can't believe how good he is. Even after not playing for something like eight weeks, he was just destroying people. The whole week in practice, he was on a different level. It seems like everything's just too easy for him and that was weird since there were so many good players out there."

Walker - "Man, he was ballin too. He was making one-handed catches, catches from his knees. He's just a natural out there and he's a real good kid too."

The standout linebacker will make his official visit to UM next weekend before signing with the Hurricanes. He thinks he can play early.

"Since I'll probably be the smallest guy out there, I need to make sure I know the plays and everything," he said. "Jonathan Vilma did it early on. They're losing everyone but McIntosh and Leon Williams after next year and they are going to need one of us coming in to start in our second year. I want to make sure I'm that person."

Cook said he was upset to watch the Hurricanes lose in the Fiesta Bowl.

"It sucked," he said. "I was watching it with Bryan [Pata] and Stanley McClover. Stanley was rooting for Ohio State the whole time while me and Bryan were rooting hard for UM. He won in the end but we'll be back. If we keep bringing in the right players and they keep working hard like that, we can have the success they've had."
