Shannon: Today we didn't get better

The Hurricanes practiced this morning for the fourth straight day and CanesTime.com was there. Read on to see what head coach Randy Shannon was talking about afterwards.

On today's practice:
Today we started off real slow. It wasn't the same tempo as the last few days. We finished up fast. The tight ends did a nice job catching the balls today. Lamar Miller had a few nice runs today, did some good things. We had a couple fumbles today. Jordan Futch caused one and recovered one. We can't start out slow and pick it up in the end. It's like the Florida State game last year, we started slow and had to play catch up.

On that being expected:
You don't anticipate those things to happen. It's a young team. You catch it early and you can address the issue instead of it happening a week before the season.

On the day before full pads:
They linger to what's expected tomorrow. For the most part, it's the same type of temp. They get kind of anxious. You can't look ahead and today we didn't get better like we needed to.

On Lamar Miller:
He's doing a nice job running the football, picking up the offense. He's not trying to press. When he gets an opportunity to do a job, he has.

On Brandon Washington:
He's playing guard very well, playing center very well. When you don't have the depth, you have to move them around and we like the way he's picking it up.

On getting more interceptions:
We've been doing it every day in practice, emphasizing creating turnovers. We're trying to create turnovers. Everything we're focusing on is creating turnovers. It also helps our offense to protect the ball. Some years you have lots of them, some you don't. You have to find ways to create them. Last year we weren't where we needed to be against the run so teams didn't have to throw as much.

On Lee Chambers:
He was a little nicked. He's OK and he was out there today.

On Gavin Hardin:
He's doing fine. He just hasn't been practicing. He startd off the other day but got sore.

On Jacory's progress:
You cant know until you get scrimmaging and things like that.
