Vernon: I just got moved up

Olivier Vernon is a promising true freshman for the Hurricanes and he talked about a number of things after practice this afternoon.

On getting reps with the first team:
I just got moved up recently. Really, there's not any starters yet. Everyone's just trying to work hard.

On playing left or right:
I'm on the right side with the ones.

On the other one:
It's Marcus Robinson.

On what he's done:
Hard work. That's all it is. And getting to the ball.

On who's behind him:
(Adewale) Ojomo. He's been helping me get through the plays. He's been a leader for me.

On having early success:
I always knew I could rush the passer. I don't feel like I'm all the way there yet. I wanna get better and take a step further.

On sitting out last year:
I got hurt the first game of the season, messed up my ankle. It kept me rested for awhile. I was able to get some mental reps. It helped me a lot.

On his improvement:
Coach has helped me with my hand placement, shooting my hands, and keeping my stamina up.

On getting sacks early in camp:
(Laughing) I try to. I wasn't even keeping count. I'm just trying to make plays.

On the young D-Line:
We're all confident. We're out there getting rowdy, getting loud. We're pretty confident about the season.

On the chemistry of the group:
The chemistry is there. We all communicate and we're getting ready for that season.
