UM Closing in on Commitment

After at least two standout players from the state of Louisiana made commitments to the University of Miami today, there's news that another one might soon join them. That's because safety Laron Landry loved his weekend visit.

"It was great," Landry said. "I really liked the campus and how they have a small student body. At my high school, we have over 2,000 students. Miami's a smaller school so you can really learn well."

Landry said he had a chance to hang out with several UM players as well.

"I hung out with Fonso [Marshall] and Dre [Johnson] the most," he said. "Those guys are cool. I learned a lot about Miami from them. They seem like real happy and everything too."

Landry said he also got to sit down with UM coaches and evaluate things.

"They were basically just telling me how they need some free safeties," he said. "They loaded up on cornerbacks last year and now they need some safeties. Looking at it, I think I fit into what they're doing real well. Playing time is important but that'll be anywhere you go. I just want to be able to fit in and I think I can at Miami."

Landry said he almost made a decision earlier today.

"I know Craig and Daryl committed," he said. "I thought about doing it too but I'm going to think about it for a minute."

The talented safety said he's narrowed his list down to three -- Miami, Florida, and LSU. He compared the three.

"I'm going to sit down and evaluate what's best for me," he said. "I really like LSU and Florida, but Miami really stood out more to me. It just seems to me like it's the right fit."

So how close is Landry to making a commitment?

"I haven't committed yet," he said. "Coach Johnson's coming by next weekend. I'll probably wait till he visits to announce my commitment but I might do it during the week. It's looking real good for Miami right now."
