Cooper Getting Closer

At 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, St. Augustine, Fla. safety Willie Cooper has narrowed his list of possible choices down to three -- Miami, Florida State, and Florida.

"I thought that by narrowing it down, things would get easier to compare and stuff like that," Cooper said. "But I've had the same three for awhile now and everyone knows it."

So when asked if Cooper has gotten any closer to making a final decision on where he'll attend college in the fall, he was in a joking spirit.

"I've made a decision," he said. "I will be playing somewhere inside the state of Florida (laughing). Seriously, that's about all I know right now but I'm still looking at Miami and FSU the most."

Cooper's has some time to reflect on things almost a week after his visit to Miami.

"Things are still about the same as they were when I came home," he said. "I've thought a lot about it. I've been playing some basketball and even when I'm on the court I think about it sometimes. It's a tough decision."

To help that decision a little easier, UM sent defensive backs coach Mark Stoops to the area earlier this week.

"Basically, we just talked about some of the same stuff," he said. "It just shows how interested they are in me. Miami's a great place. I really liked it there and I still think about some of the things I liked about it. But the same is for FSU, though."

The standout safety said he might wait until signing day before making a final decision.

"I guess Wednesday's when it all goes down," he said. "I cancelled a visit that I had scheduled for this weekend so maybe I can use that time to keep going over my options and figure out what's best for me."
