The University of Miami extended its record to 5-1 on the season by defeating UCF Saturday night by the score of 27-7.
completed 20-of-26 passes for 293 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions against UCF on Saturday night. It marked the fifth time in the young quarterback's career that he's gone over 200 yards.
Running back Javarris James finished with 65 yards and a score and went over 2,000 yards for his career on the evening. Backup Damien Berry finished with 60 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.
Wide receiver Laron Byrd tied a career high with five catches and he also had a career high with 85 yards. He was Miami's top target on this night. Leonard Hankerson caught four passes for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Miami's defense held UCF to zero first half points, the first time they've done that to an opponent since the season opener in 2008 against Charleston Southern. UCF finished the game with just 229 total yards and averaged just 2.2 yards per carry.
Senior linebacker Darryl Sharpton led the way with 11 tackles. Sean Spence had a career high two sacks while Colin McCarthy had an interception.
The win was Miami's third straight after falling at Virginia Tech last month. They'll take a 5-1 record back home next Saturday as they'll take on Clemson in a big ACC conference matchup.
