Highsmith Names Favorite

Miami (Fla.) Central standout linebacker Ali Highsmith thought the recruiting process would be a little easier than he's experiencing right now.

"I used to see some guys come down to the last day," Highsmith said. "I didn't think I'd be one of them. But I guess I wasn't ready for it."

Highsmith has narrowed his list down to two and decided not to take his final visit this weekend.

"I was supposed to go to Rutgers but we cancelled that," he said. "I decided to keep it between UM and LSU and make a choice between those two."

Highsmith said he will sign with one of the schools on Wednesday and that's when people will know.

"I'm having a tough time choosing," he said. "I keep going back and forth. They're both good places that I could be happy at."

Highsmith said there's something to like about each of the two schools.

"LSU's done a great job recruiting me," he said. "I like the coaches and I felt comfortable there. Plus I think I can go in and play right away. UM's right down the road and I think I fit in really well. If you want to take your game to the next level, UM's the spot."

If Highsmith keeps going back and forth between the two, which one has the edge right now?

"I'd say Miami," he said. "But I'm not committed yet. I'll sign on Wednesday."

Highsmith will be one of several Central players that will sign Div. 1 scholarships on Wednesday. Bryan Pata is another.

"I don't even know where that cat's going," he said. "He was all about UM at first but I don't know what he's going to do."
