Sheiku Kabba posted 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field for Providence (12-11, 5-7 Big East), which won its second consecutive game. Rob Sanders also shot 6-of-8 from the floor on his way to 17 points for the Friars.
Miami (10-12, 3-8) was led in the loss by Darius Rice, who tallied 16 points on 6-of-17 field-goal shooting. Armondo Surratt tallied 12 points and seven assists, while James Jones chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds. Despite their combined effort, the Hurricanes lost their second straight game.
Providence shot a blistering 61.5 percent from the field in the first half, but Miami earned a 39-37 halftime lead behind equally impressive 56.7 percent shooting from the floor.
The Friars clamped down on defense in the second half, holding Miami to just 24 points on their way to a 10-point victory.
Providence shot a red-hot 58.1 percent from the field for the game, while Miami finished at 45.8 percent, including just 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from three-point range.
