Miami's new staff has shown a dedication to competing for the Cincinnati area's best basketball preps. They recently accepted the signings of 2014 Cincinnati standouts Roderick Mills (St. Xavier) and Zach McCormick (Turpin). Tonight, the RedHawks head an hour south to Cincinnati to try to make another statement in Southwest Ohio.

Many fans have considered Miami's 2014 basketball recruiting class the most important in the program's long history. Over the past week, the momentum has grown and the RedHawks received a commitment from one of their top targets, guard Zach McCormick from Turpin (OH) High. The three star guard averaged over 23 points last season and chose the RedHawks over other finalists Ohio and Tennessee.

After his sophomore season, Westlake (OH) standout Gavin Skelly had a meeting with his coaches to discuss areas to improve. The 6'9 big man had already established himself as one of the best big wings in Ohio, but his coaches wanted more assertiveness out of the forward. In his junior season, Skelly emerged as one of the highest energy and most versatile players in the state.

As the 2013 recruiting class takes its final shape for the Miami RedHawks, the coaching staff has identified some major targets for 2014, but few have been more emphasized than combo guard Zach McCormick. The Cincinnati (Turpin HS) native has taken multiple unofficial visits to Oxford, but as he continues to shine on the court, he has received lots of attention from college coaches.

After a breakout senior season, Inglewood (CA) High School's Randy Onwuasor has transformed into one of the best guards remaining uncommitted in the class of 2013. He recently visited Miami and has placed the RedHawks in his final three with a decision coming soon.

North Carolina has long been a hotbed of prep basketball talent. 6'8 wing Logan McLane has continued that tradition and emerged as one of the state's most coveted recruits. The Greenfield School (NC) standout received an offer from Miami in February and made the time to check in with RedHawk Insider.

Chris Harrison-Docks originally signed with Butler last year and expected the Indianapolis school to be his home for the next four years. But after arriving on campus this fall, he decided he needed a change and will transfer after final exams this month. The Miami RedHawks are one of the schools Harrison-Docks is considering.

Monty Boykins (6'3", 165 lbs), although only a sophomore, is the leading scorer on his high school team and second highest scorer in the powerful GMC conference behind Middletown's Geovonie McKnight. The Lakota West standout from West Chester, Ohio now focuses on putting that scoring to good use in a state tournament run.

After he attended Miami's Elite Camp last summer, Moore told RedHawk Insider, "I love it. I love Miami. It is a good school. I'd come here and be the man at point guard. And hopefully Miami will offer me." Shortly afterward, the RedHawks extended the offer.

Those talents include the All-MAC forwards and centers Wally Szczerbiak (NBA), 3 time 1st team All-MAC Devin Davis (Spain), Ira Newble (NBA), Alex Shorts, Nathan Peavy (Puerto Rico), Danny Horace (France), Juby Johnson (Croatia), and 2009 MAC Player of the Year Michael Bramos (Greece). Shonn Miller (6'6"/193 lbs) of St. Ignatius High in Cleveland, Ohio says that he is underrated. This gives him extra motivation on the court to market his game to the world. After he played his way this past winter and summer into the recruiting radar of the Miami-OH basketball staff, it appears that the RedHawks have bought what Shonn was selling.

One of Miami's most sought after recruiting targets, Sean Sheldon (6'9", 211 lbs), averaged around 12 points and 9 rebounds for Traverse City (MI) High as a sophomore last year. He is looking to do more damage in his upcoming junior season and advance deep into the postseason.

One of the best shooters and scorers in Ohio standing at 5'11" and 160 pounds, Cole Krizancic became the only junior in Ohio to be named to the 1st team Division I (big school) all–state team. With his dad as his high school coach at Mentor H.S. in Ohio, this fundamental 2011 combo guard has earned himself a NCAA offer.
