Van Scyoc's two offers are from North Dakota and Army. Besides Miami, he currently also has interest from Stanford, N. Iowa, Drake, UW-Milwaukee, UWGB, and Idaho. Of that group, he says Miami, Army, and North Dakota stand out.
Van Scyoc made a recent unofficial visit to Miami the weekend of the Miami-Colorado State football game. He said of the visit:
"I really connected with the players. I spent three days (Thursday-Saturday) there. They are really cool. The coaching staff is really nice. The campus is really neat. Small time atmosphere, but a big college feel. The campus is just beautiful. The business center was awesome."
Academically, Van Scyoc has a 3.7 GPA and will take the ACT in December. He intends to major in business.
His criteria in choosing a school is three fold: 1) Most important are academics, 2) second is playing time, and 3) third is development under the coaches as a player and as a person.
Last year for Green Lake, Van Scyoc shot 50% from the field, 40% from beyond the arc, and a very impressive 89% from the charity stripe.
Van Scyoc, says he is comparable to Dirk Nowitzski and Evan Turner. Van Scyoc explained, "I am a good face up and back to the basket player. I used to play only in the post, but I am transitioning to a wing. I have a consistent shot and am athletic." He says he needs to become a better rebounder and ball handler.
Off the court, Van Scyoc says he is very involved in his community. He speaks from the lectern at church, volunteers his time at animal shelters, and helps tutor other students.
