The Miami RedHawks landed their first 2009 basketball commit on Tuesday, meaning at least one member of the big recruiting class being planned has been found. Miami is looking to pick up five players from the class of 2009 with six current RedHawks set to run out of eligibility at the end of next season. Vince Legarza, who will walk-on to the team this year, will be granted a scholarship in 2009.
RedHawks were looking at a confusing puzzle ahead, as they tried to fill five spots for the class of 2009. However, completing that puzzle must now seem much less daunting a task, as they found the first piece to it on Tuesday. Princeton HS combo guard Orlando Williams
committed to Miami, giving them a guard they will desperately need while trying to survive the departures of Eric Pollitz
, Carl Richburg
, Michael Bramos
, and Kenny Hayes – all of whom have started multiple games at one of the guard spots.
"I committed to Miami about an hour and a half ago," said Williams. "Told all the coaches."
RedHawk Insider's T. Tod Mollaun will have a full story coming shortly, but for now we'll just leave you with this parting thought from Williams: "(I am) just happy to be a RedHawk."
