Miami was able to keep the game close by hitting nine three pointers and holding Cincinnati to 41.7 percent from the field, including 16.7 percent from behind the three point line. The other key was Miami's ability to slow down all big-east guard Deonta Vaughn, who scored zero points (0-2 FG), and added just one assist.
The Bearcats also outrebounded the Redhawks 38-29, led by Stephenson's eight rebounds. Steve Toyloy, Deonta Vaughn, Yancy Gates, and Dion Dixon all added four rebounds a piece. Gates, Dixon, and Toyloy all also added eight points and Yancy Gates also blocked four shots.
As for the freshman update, Jaquon Parker got his first start of his Cincinnati career, but did not score and added two rebounds and one steal. Wright had twelve points, one rebound and one assist, and shot the ball well from the floor going 4-8 and 3-4 from the free throw line.
Now the attention for the Bearcats will move to the Crosstown Shootout, when they take on Xavier (5-3) on Sunday. To beat the Musketeers the Bearcats will need a much better performance out of both Yancy Gates and Deonta Vaughn, who couldnt get started tonight. They will also need another big performance from freshman Lance Stephenson who had a season high for points in tonight's game.
