Monty Boykins (6'3", 160 lbs) did something rare for a large GMC school, he started eight games as a freshman after being moved up from the reserve team. The Lakota West High School standout from West Chester, Ohio is now ready for more.

During the 2000-10 campaign, Boykins averaged 4.6 points and 2 rebounds. He shot 35% from the field and 33% from behind the arc.

Lakota West finished 14-8 overall and 12-2 in the GMC. The league record was good enough for second place behind Princeton.

This summer, Monty is playing AAU with the Cincinnati Lakers.

Boykins says he can play either guard position. He described himself as a "shooter with a pull up ‘J'." He added, "I can take the ball to the basket. I can dribble too." He excels at coming off screens and hitting midrange jumpers.

He says his weaknesses are his quickness, especially on defense, and overall strength.

Although he has just finished his freshman year, Boykins already is already getting college interest from Miami-OH, Notre Dame, Villanova, and Dayton. He has attended camps at Miami and Cincinnati.

When asked about Miami, Boykins said, "I like the camps and the coaching staff. They are really nice. It looks like a great place to go."
