Recently, the 6'8" and 260 pound Decker spoke with RedHawk Insider about his basketball game and recruitment.

RedHawk Insider.: Tell us a little about yourself?

DECKER: I play basketball and football. I really like to hang out with my friends a lot. That is probably the reason I got into sports. I just started loving sports and everything. I am a good student (3.8 GPA). I am trying to get myself a scholarship to either basketball or football.

R.I.: Do you have a preference?

DECKER: I am actually preferring basketball, but I am getting better looks for football. The better looks do not really make a difference to me. Basketball is more of my passion than football. But it is really the best scholarship opportunity for me.

R.I.: How will Vandalia Butler be this year?

DECKER: I actually think we are going to be really good. We started three sophomores last year including me. So we are going to have all those guys back. We have a really good sophomore class overall in sports. I am really looking for myself to be a leader and the two other guys who started last year to be leaders and mentor the younger kids so we can have an overall good program.

R.I.: Tell me a little about your game?

DECKER: I have a lot of people tell me I play like Kevin Love. My coach in high school says there are not a lot of guys who play with their back to the basket anymore. But that is my strength...back to the basket moves. I am a true post player, but I can run in transition and handle the ball alright. I can shoot pretty consistently out to seventeen feet.

R.I.: What schools are recruiting you?

DECKER: Basketball wise, Miami (of Ohio) of course, Toledo, Ball State, N.C. State, Penn State, Bowling Green, Akron, and Wright State. No offers yet. They have all invited me to their camps, but Miami was the only one I could make because I am real busy with football, AAU, school stuff, and lifting for football.

R.I.: What did you think of Miami?

DECKER: I really like it. The facility was awesome. Nicer than I expected, not in a mean way. I really like the coaches. I talk to Coach Lallathin. He is really a nice guy. I would not have a problem playing here. It is a division I school. They play against good schools.

R.I.: Anything else you would like to add about you?

DECKER: I am a social butterfly. I can pretty much get along with everybody. I think I am a good team player once I get a feel for everybody. My #1 goal on the floor is if I have a bad game and the team wins, I am o.k. with that. But if I have a bad game and the team loses because of it, then I take that upon myself. Also, I am coachable. I can take coaching. Whether it is hard nosed or telling me to do something, I do like to think I am coachable.
