State Is In The Mix

Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius quarterback Brian Hoyer has been offered a scholarship by the Michigan State staff.

"Michigan State has offered me a scholarship," said quarterback Brian Hoyer. "Maryland said they are going to offer but I haven't seen anything in writing yet.

"My favorites right now are Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Colorado and Boston College.

"I've already been to junior days at Michigan and Ohio State. I'm going to the (Ann Arbor) Nike Camp in April and I'll probably camp at Ohio State and Michigan this summer."

Hoyer, a 6-foot-4, 192-pounder, from Cleveland (St. Ignatius) is considered one of the top junior quarterbacks in the Big Ten region.

He threw for 2,130 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior and was named all-area.

Does Hoyer have a leader?

"No, no leader. I grew up a big Michigan fan though. I never was too much of an Ohio State fan until I met (Buckeye Head Coach) Jim Tressel last year.

"I went to a couple of Ohio State games last year and fell in love with the school and the atmosphere at the football games.

"I still don't have a leader. I'm going into the process with an open mind. I also like the Michigan State campus a lot.

"Dave Ragone is an Ignatius graduate, so coach (John L.) Smith was recruiting me for a long time when he was at Louisville. Now he's at Michigan State and I'm going to give them (Michigan State) a lot of consideration as well."
