MICHIGAN STATE ROLLS PAST EMU 96-66

The 2nd ranked Spartans opened up their 16th season under head coach Tom Izzo with an impressive 96-66 victory over the Eagles of Eastern Michigan on Friday night.

Senior point guard Kalin Lucas returned from last season's ruptured left Achilles' tendon injury to pace the green and white with 18 points. Fellow Senior Durrell Summers chipped in with 17 points.

Michigan State had built a lead on Eastern Michigan as big as 33 points and really never looked back shooting over 50% from the field.

Newcomer Keith Appling despite 6 turnovers from the guard position scored 14 points in his regular season debut dawning the green and white, while Junior Draymond Green had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

Despite not being able to make a sustained run against Michigan State as a team Eastern Michigan Senior forward Brandon Bawdry scored a double double with a career best in points 32 and rebounds 17 to pace the Eagles in a losing effort.

Michigan State with the win now improves to 90-22 all time in season opening games which includes a 79-11 mark at the Breslin Center.
