Grant Talks Spartans Visit

The battle between Michigan State and Ohio State took another step this past weekend as Doran Grant made his official visit with the Spartans. We have the latest from the Ohio defensive back.

While Ohio State and Michigan State did not play on the field in 2010 that has not stopped the two programs from battling for one of the top prospects in the Midwest, Doran Grant.

Grant, a 5-foot-10, 177-pound 5-Star defensive back from Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, took his official visit with Michigan State this past weekend. How did the Spartans do?

"The visit to Michigan State was great," Grant told Spartan Digest. "I got to spend a lot of time with the coaches, and some of the players and other recruits."

The Spartans coaching staff made sure Grant has a solid host during his stay.

"LeVeon Bell was my host. Once I met LeVeon, I felt comfortable right from the start. The people and relationships I have built with the players already there is solid. "

As for who holds an advantage?

"Right now it's dead even between Michigan State and Ohio State. I have settled down on those two schools, but I am also going to look at a few others as well. I'm not sure if I will take official visits or not."

While there is pressure during the recruiting process, Grant says now it's under control.

"I do feel pressure from those on the outside. Fans and stuff. But people who know me understand why I'm looking at Michigan State and Ohio State. I know I'm going to choose the school that is best for me and I'm not too worried about leaving Ohio or making Spartan fans upset about my decision.

One thing Grant finds funny is the great friendship between the two head coaches recruiting him the hardest.

"I know they are really good friends. It will be difficult for the school I do not choose. But I have to pick what is the best fit for me and they both understand that."

Despite having a father who played for Michigan State, Doran knows he'll have his support no matter where he goes to college.

"My father's advice has always been to go where I feel comfortable. He said this is my decision and has not placed any pressure on where I should go.

I was looking at majoring in dentistry, but I know how hard it is going to be coming in as a freshman and playing football. So I'm looking at communications or journalism now.

His advice is to go where I feel comfortable. He said it's my decision and for me to pick what is best for me. He has not placed any pressure on where I go."

With the recent success of the Spartans, Grant knows Coach Dantonio has things going in the right direction.

"Yes, it helps with Michigan State having success. It just shows that every year Michigan State is moving up. Coach Dantonio is building a championship program at Michigan State."

With his time now consumed by basketball, Doran knows people are keeping their eyes on him.

"I fully understand people feel I'm one of the top committed or uncommitted players in the country. All I can do is play football, be myself, and do the things I'm supposed to do."

Grant will soon be taking his official visit to Ohio State. That visit will be one that could give Grant the information he needs to make his college decision. Spartan fans will be watching.
