Spring Football Update

Drew Stanton and the remainder of the Spartan quarterbacks performed well during controlled scrimmages last weekend. See how they did, who stood out, and more in this Spring football update!

If there were any doubts that Drew Stanton has the ability to be a big-time quarterback in the future, he put them to rest.

In a 75-play "controlled" scrimmage on Saturday, the quarterback from Farmington Hills Harrison, completed eight-of-10 passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior quarterback Damon Dowdell completed four-of-nines passes for 70 yards and senior quarterback Jeff Smoker connected on seven-of-nine passes for 54 yards.

Sophomore quarterback Aaron Alexander, the other quarterback in the mix, has begun his transition to the wide out position.

The Spartans also got some big plays out of their two running backs; Jaren Hayes and Tyrell Dortch. Hayes, a sophomore, finished with 98 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown and Dorth, a redshirt junior, finished with 37 yards on eight rushes.

The Spartans will have another closed scrimmage on Saturday, and will finish the spring season with the Green and White game on Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. in Spartan Stadium.
