Cunningham Out For Bowl Game

Junior wide receiver B.J. Cunningham will miss the Capital One Bowl against Alabama following an injury on Saturday during practice.

Michigan State released news on Tuesday that junior wide receiver B.J. Cunningham would miss the Capital One Bowl following surgery for a broken foot suffered during practice on Saturday.

Cunningham, a 60foot-2, 220-pound native of Westerville, Ohio, suffered the injury during bowl preparation on Saturday and underwent successful surgery on Sunday.

Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio released the following statement on Tuesday.

"B.J. Cunningham is a great competitor and he's extremely disappointed to be out for the Capital One Bowl game against Alabama. B.J. had another outstanding season, and I know that he'll work hard during his rehab and set himself up for a big senior year."

The junior "Z" receiver led the team with 50 receptions for 611 yards and nine touchdowns during the regular season.

Junior Keshawn Martin and Redshirt Freshman Bennie Fowler are expected to fill in for Cunningham.
