Will The Spartans Look At Michigan Pledges?

With the official announcement of Rich Rodriguez departure at Michigan, those players who have issued verbal pledges to the program are placed with a lot of uncertainty and possible changes in their future as they look at all of their options. Are there players Michigan State may go after? We look at the Wolverines pledge list to see.

Michigan started Wednesday with twelve verbal pledges and two soft pledges, by now the wheels are turning as college programs from across the country are making their pitch to get guys on official visits and their pledge to walk away from the Wolverines.

Here are the key players the Spartans might look at.

CB: Blake Countess – Our Lady Good Counsel High School (Olney, Maryland)

Countess is a solid player who has not list Michigan State during the recruiting process. However, the Spartans have done a good job of working the Maryland area and a player with Countess skill set could intrigue them to take a second look.

MLB: Desmond Morgan – West Ottawa High School (Holland, Michigan)

Morgan is a player the Spartans passed on during the recruiting process and I do not see that changing now.

RB: Justice Hayes – Grand Blanc Community High School (Grand Blanc, Michigan)

The Spartans worked hard to get Hayes into the fold prior to him giving his pledge to Notre Dame. Since then Hayes backed out of his Notre Dame pledge and make the pledge to Michigan. While I would not rule out a run at Hayes, I do not feel he is the biggest target the Spartans will go after in this group.

C: Jack Miller – St. Johns Jesuit High School (Toledo, Ohio)

I have seen Miller prior to his pledge to Michigan and found him to be a stretch to play at a high level in the Big Ten. His move to center would have allowed him to play in Rich Rodriguez offensive scheme, and it will be interesting to see if Miller even things about making a change. Either way I do not see Michigan State going after him.

DE: Chris Rock – St. Francis DeSales High School (Columbus, Ohio)

There are ties to the high school program as current Spartan, Travis Jackson played at DeSales High School. Rock was a player who many were high on during his sophomore year and then felt he faded off during his junior season. Michigan State offered, however, the Spartans might be in a position to go after better players at this time.

CB: Greg Brown – Fremont Ross High School (Fremont, Ohio)

Brown is a player the Spartans offered and could be a player they take another run for with the changes at Michigan. However, Brown has a former teammate and family ties to Michigan and most feel he will stay no matter whom the head coach will be.

DE: Brennen Beyer – Plymouth High School (Canton, Michigan)

Another player the Spartans offered they could take a second run for with the coaching change. However, Notre Dame was a program Beyer really liked and the Irish could be taking a run after him as well.

CB: Delonte Hollowell – Cass Technical High School (Detroit, Michigan)

The Spartans did not offer and Hollowell would be smart to stay right where he is. There are better corners out there to be had if the Spartans want one.

OT: Jake Fisher – Traverse City West Senior High School (Traverse City, Michigan)

If there is any player, Michigan State wants from the current group of Michigan pledges it is Jake Fisher. The Spartans wanted him before and will more than likely want him now with the possibility he could reopen his recruiting. It will be interesting to see if Fisher looks to make a change and if the Spartans are the team to beat if he makes a change.

There is our look at current Michigan pledges the Spartans could be looking at now that Rich Rodriguez has been fired. The next couple of weeks could be very interesting with a couple of these players.
