Spartan Stock Report

Michigan State will host several top prospects from across the country and it is now time to issue a stock report on some of the names scheduled to visit or have been talking about the Spartans.

Jake Fisher – The Michigan verbal pledge has opened up to take a few visits and is looking to visit Florida and Oregon in the coming weeks. Look for Brady Hoke to push hard to get Fisher back as a solid pledge. If he visits Florida, they will put on a hard sell as they feel they are losing one of their verbal pledges to Notre Dame in Chase Hounshell in the coming days. Fisher heard from Notre Dame as well after the Michigan coaching change, but I do not expect the Irish to offer. This would be a huge pick up for Mark Dantonio and I am sure they will do a great job of showing him he would have a chance for early playing time. However, I just do not see Fisher heading to East Lansing in the end. - Sell

Darien Bryant – The Ohio tight end reported picked up an offer from Michigan State, however, things never really took off for the once pledge to Nebraska. Some feel the chance to leave the Midwest for Hawaii has pulled him in that direction. I do not see the Spartans making a push after getting Shilique Calhoun on board and the effort they are putting into Frank Clark. - Sell

Frank Clark – One reason for the Spartans not pushing for Bryant is the possibility of getting Frank Clark out of Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville. The tight end / defensive end enjoyed a good senior season and the Spartans would love to get a player out of the pipeline school to Ohio State. Scheduled visit to Penn State still in the future and it is unknown if Michigan will still be a player with their new staff. Right now, things look good for the Spartans and while we would love to give a buy on the report, we will go with a hold for now. Did the pledge of Shilique Calhoun lower the Spartans need of Clark? - Hold

Desimon Green – The once Pittsburgh verbal pledge is talking to the new Panthers staff and likes what he is hearing. It remains to be seen if Green really gives the Spartans a chance now that he was the one that made the call to the new Pitt staff. However, there is still a chance and what once looked like a high possibility is now a question mark. - Hold

Juwan Caesar – The Spartans are making a push for Caesar, a receiver who fits the mold of what they look for. While none of the big-name Florida schools have offered, a player like Caesar could look to stay in his home state. The one to worry about here is West Virginia, as the Mountaineers will be looking to throw the football more as they start the process of getting their coach in waiting behind the controls. The Spartans can offer early playing time and show him lots of film on how successful he would be in their offense. - Hold

Savon Huggins – There has been a lot of talk on the internet Huggins is looking for a few things from the school he will pick. One of those is a fullback, well if that is true, look no farther than Michigan State. However, Notre Dame and Rutgers have the early edge and in the end, I do not see Huggins looking at the Spartans depth chart and looking at four running backs ahead of him. Sell

Marquise Wright – Another Pittsburgh de-commitment, Wright has been looking towards a few different programs. Rutgers is the latest program to make a hard push and the Spartans have been doing their work as well. Wright always says good things about every visit and is a hard one to read. This is where Ted Gill needs to work his fatherly magic and convince Wright he needs to be in the Green and White. - Hold

Brandon Clemons – New coaches at Maryland and Connecticut in the past couple of weeks place the Spartans in a good position to pull Clemons into the fold. The fact he can play on either side of the ball is a major reason Clemons is a must get for the Spartans. Michigan State is the last scheduled visit, however, someone could come in late, and he would still have a visit left to use. - Hold

Branden Jackson – Academic concerns forced the Spartans to look at others and with Shilique Calhoun in the fold and Desimon Green set to visit, Jackson looks to be off the Spartans radar. - Sell

Deonte Gibson – Some thought Gibson would look hard at the Spartans after the Pittsburgh coaching change. However, it looks as if the Spartans have gone in a different direction and Gibson will be headed either back to Pittsburgh or to another program besides the Spartans. - Sell

Remound Wright – If Wright would change his mind about Stanford, he would look to Notre Dame. This is false as the Irish are not an option as they have not offered and have told him they will not. With the hiring of David Shaw as the Cardinal new head coach, I do not expect there to be much change. - Sell
