Spotlight Class of 2011:Shilique Calhoun

The signing of Shilique Calhoun continues the Spartans trend of adding length on the defensive edge. Compare the thoughts of Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio and Spartan Digest.

Shilique Calhoun – Defensive End

HT: 6-FOOT-5 / WT: 225-POUNDS

Length on the edge is huge and the Spartans got more in Shilique Calhoun with his long and athletic frame. This continues the trend Mark Dantonio has used since taking over the program as he looks to have guys 6-foot-5 or taller man the edge of the defense.

Mark Dantonio Says: "Shilique Calhoun is an outstanding athlete in every respect. We saw him play in 2010. He has tremendous jumping ability, has great acceleration, and is very fluid. He is an active defensive end who should provide immediate help as a pass rusher. Shilique also has the ability to play tight end. When I watch him, in every respect, he reminds me of Julian Peterson, a former Spartan All-American and All-Pro in the NFL."

Spartan Digest Says: Very athletic player who can play on either side of the ball. Long frame with long arms gives him a chance to cause problems in the passing lanes and continues the programs growth of tall edge players in the Spartans defense. Athletic enough to play tight end but future looks very bright on the defensive side of the ball.
