Spartan Women Dominate Wildcats

The 11th ranked Michigan State Spartans Women's Basketball team is leaving nothing to chance in their quest to become Big Ten Tournament Champions.

Michigan State coach Suzy Merchant was proud of her team's performance.

"I was proud of our team defensively. Today, I thought we were very, very solid."

Make no mistake, the Big Ten Champs have a target on their back, and Northwestern was looking for an upset. However, that was not in the cards with the outstanding team defense shown by the Spartans.

"They played some great defense, you know, really rattled us, especially me," Amy Jaeschke said following the game. "They did a great job of fronting me and not letting me get comfortable at all during the game."

The Spartans watched Jaeschke score 25 points in their last meeting, and was set on not allowing a repeat performance.

Nevertheless, no one figured the Spartans to be so dominating that they held the Wildcats team to a 17-year tournament low of 25 total points.

Leading the way for the Spartans was Porsche Poole with 11 points followed by KyKendra Johnson and Cetera Washington, each with 10 points.

The Spartans will now fact No. 5 seed Ohio State on Saturday night around 7:30 p.m. ET.
