Spartans To Get Visit From Washington

While many have Adolphus Washington signing with higher profiled programs, a friendship could help the Ohio defensive end look towards the Spartans. Spartan Digest spoke with Washington about his interest in MSU.

Going from football to basketball without a break had started to wear on Cincinnati (Ohio) Taft defensive end Adolphus Washington. However, a deep run and winning a state championship proved the commitment to both sports was worth it.

"I kind of needed a break after football," Washington told Spartan Digest during our visit at Taft High School. "I needed to stay in shape because of the level of competition. So instead of sitting at home and doing nothing, I felt it was better to be out here with my teammates working to get better."

Because of his team's state run, football recruiting been put to the back burner. Now it is time things will start to heat up and Michigan State is a school the 6-foot-6, 255-pound has high interest in looking at more.

"I have not really thought much about football recruiting because of basketball. Now, I am just starting to get things going again after winning the championship. I have not visited Michigan State, but I know Coach (Harlon) Barnett really well. I know Coach Barnett from our basketball coach as they played together in college."

Because of the relationship between Barnett and Washington hoop coach, there is a comfort level others programs may not share in.

"I know if I would pick Michigan State, it would be like going to another home as Coach Barnett would be there and treat me like one of his own children."

While he has not visited campus, Washington said one could be coming soon.

"I am going to try and get up to Michigan State this spring. I am supposed to be attending their camp this summer, so if I cannot get there this spring I think I will be there then."

Another thing Washington likes about the Spartans is their head coach. Knowing Mark Dantonio knows all about Cincinnati has Adolphus thinking.

"I know Coach Dantonio spent time here at the University of Cincinnati and he knows how tough it is around here and how good football players are from here."

Washington knows the Spartans are a program on the rise and one he could make a major difference at in the future. Spartan Digest will continue to follow the Ohio defensive end in the coming weeks and months.
