Visit To MSU Coming Soon

Benny McGowan is excited about his scholarship offer from Michigan State. The Ohio offensive lineman spoke with Spartan Digest about his interest in the Spartans.

One of the top offensive guard prospects in Ohio. Benny McGowan of Centerville (Ohio) has found interest from several Mid American Conference programs, Cincinnati and Michigan State. Where does McGowan stand with the Spartans?

"I plan on visiting Michigan State for their spring game on April 30. I am excited to see their team and campus, and what type of atmosphere is there.

While McGowan is excited about his MSU offer, he was surprised by it.

"It was exciting to be offered by Michigan State and kind of surprised me when Coach (Ron) Ullery told me about it. I was happy to get it and that is when I started planning to get up there for a visit."

One thing we learned during our visit with Benny was the team he grew up rooting for as a youngster. Centerville has seen several former players end up playing for Ohio State over the years. While many watch the Buckeyes, McGowan has been a longtime Michigan fan.

"I grew up a Michigan fan. However, I am not going to let growing up a Michigan fan affect my college decision. I may have rooted for them growing up, now I have to think about the big picture and where I feel is the best fit for me in college."

As winter turns to spring, McGowan has started getting prepared for track season. While some look to work on speed, McGowan has found track a great help in getting stronger.

"I have really been trying to lift hard and get stronger during the off season. That is what I also try and do during track season as our track coach does a great job of putting together a great workout."

During spring break, Benny is headed off to Florida to compete in his spring sport.

"We are going to Florida for the Florida Relays over spring break. This is just another great opportunity to compete against other throwers in the country and win."

With the support of his family, Benny is excited about the path his recruiting is taking.

"My parents are pretty happy about it. My dad has always been behind me with my goal of playing college football and is excited about me getting college offers."

As for his timeline in making his verbal pledge, McGowan has a plan of attack.

"My goal is to committee by the beginning of the season. There is a lot of wear during the recruiting process and I want it to be more about the team during the season and concentrate on winning a championship for the team I play for now."

Spartan Digest will continue to check back with McGowan about his interest in MSU.
