Ohio Defensive Back Talks MSU Offer

Spartan Digest reported James Sanford received an offer from Michigan State a couple of weeks ago. On Sunday we caught up with the busy defensive back to get the latest.

Sunday found James Sanford of Xenia (Ohio) High School competing against over 170 prospects from Southwest Ohio. Showing the skills we saw during the season, Sanford stood out as one of the top prospect in drills and a little one-on-one following the day's events.

"I felt I had a good day," Sanford said about his day at the MSR Ohio Combine. "I measured in at about 6-foot-2, 181-pounds and felt I had some nice times in the drills."

With two offers in hand, do not be surprised if Sanford adds to his list in the coming weeks. However, one of his offers is from Michigan State.

Sanford talks about his visit to campus for the Spartans Junior Day.

"I went up there last month for their Junior Day when their basketball team played Purdue. It was a good visit and I was impressed by their weight room, indoor practice field and players area."

One area James did not get a chance to see was Spartan Stadium. Nevertheless, he did sneak a peek before leaving campus.

"It was all nice but we did not get to go there. I got a glimpse of it when we were leaving and it looked nice."

As for his conversations with his recruiting coach Harlon Barnett, James said things are going well.

"Coach Barnett said he really likes me and thinks I would fit in well at Michigan State. I have heard nothing but great things about him and the other coaches from my coach who played for them at Cincinnati."

As for his talk with Coach Dantonio, James said the Spartans head coach was checking up on his former player.

"Coach Dantonio and I did not speak too much, but he did talk a lot about Coach Tolbert and was asking how he was doing and checking up on him."

As for when James will look to make a return visit, he is not sure at this time.

"I am going to try and make it up there this spring or this summer for camp."

While Michigan State and Toledo are the only two offers at this time, James has been invited to Ohio State for a spring practice visit and may look to attend a couple of camps this summer beside Michigan State.

Spartan Digest will continue to check back with James in the coming weeks and months.
