Izzo nabs one assistant

Just a week after Mike Garland became the second MSU assistant coah to accept a head coaching job, the Spartans have found one replacement.

Doug Wojcik, a three year assistant under Matt Doherty at UNC, joined the Spartan family on Tuesday.

Wojcik was also an assistant under Doherty at Notre Dame. Wojcik played college ball at Navy with David Robinson. Former MSU assistant and current Dayton coach Brian Gregory also played one year for the Midshipmen.

Like Gregory, Wojcik is known for being an aggressive recruiter and having a tireless work ethic.

So for the Spartans, one void is filled, while another seems to be getting closer and closer to being filled.

Dwayne Stephens, who just finished his fourth season in Marquette under another former Spartan assistant Tom Crean, is rumored to be coming back to East Lansing.

Stephens played with the Spartans from 1990-93.

Crean also made news on Tuesday when he announced he had signed a long term extension with the Golden Eagles, smashing the rumors that he was set to take over the job at Illinois
