A Cadillac from Cadillac

The big surprise out of Michigan State camp the past two days was the emergence of Riley Norman. Spartan Digest breaks down what we saw from the 2013 offensive lineman.

Big offensive tackle Riley Norman is not your average high school prospect. At 6-foot-7, 320-pounds, Norman is a sure fire offensive right tackle who will soon dominate defenders with brute strength and surprising athletic ability for a player of his size.

While I had not seen or heard of Norman prior to Wednesday's camp opening, I soon learned this was a very special talent just learning of his massive abilities.

On Wednesday, Norman turned heads when he posted a 5.24 forty time on the new indoor (slow) surface in the Spartans indoor practice facilities.

Then the real treat was shown during one-on-one drills.

Norman at this time is very strong on the right side. When moved to the left offensive tackle spot he does struggle with technique. However, that is not a surprise when a kid is use to playing on one side so early in his career.

With his overall athletic ability, Norman has the tools to be moved to the left side. But at this time we are projecting him on the right.

During the two days of camp, Norman showed great improvement in one-on-one drills and should be able to take that home to help improve his overall game.

If not so impressed by his athletic ability, I feel I would have walked away impressed by just watching Riley go throughout camp with a smile on his face showing he was enjoying his time around the MSU football program and the other prospects.

Riley Norman learned soon after leaving camp that the Spartans liked him so much that they wanted to extend a verbal scholarship offer early.

While the Spartans will soon find other programs looking to turn his head, Spartan Digest feels the Spartans are sitting solid with a player many will be hearing much about in the coming years.
