On Monday, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound defender may have opened some eyes and could see a Spartan offer before the month is over. How did camp go?
"I did good… I ran faster and did well in the drills as I ran a 4.52 forty. The coaches told me I had good footwork and showed good acceleration."
So when will James know if the Spartans are going to offer?
"They said when I call them on July 29, I should get an offer."
What would it mean to earn a MSU offer?
"It would mean a lot to me as Michigan State was one of the schools I had in mind."
One of the things that helped James keep the faith in earning a Spartans offer is the relationship he's built with his recruiting coach Harlon Barnett.
"Coach Barnett and I are real cool. I always call him up and he's been telling me I needed to go out and ball in the one-on-one and drills and he would get me an offer. So I did my thing and showed them and showed up all the other corners and made myself stand out."
On Monday, James got some one-on-one time with his possible future position coach. Did he feel it better his chances to earn an offer?
"It was a good opportunity to have when there is someone who really wants you to be on their team. There is a lot of business about it, but you have to work hard and Coach Barnett has shown me if you work hard you get what you want."
If the Spartans offer, what happens next?
"That is probably where I will commit because it is the school I've really wanted from the start."
