Rogers Plays Waiting Game

Monday's camp performance looks to have placed the Iowa defensive back in a position to earn a scholarship offer. catches up with Charles Rogers about his camp experience.

Making his second trip to the campus of Michigan State may have placed Iowa City (IA) West Senior High School defensive back Charles Rogers in position to earn an offer from Michigan State. How was camp and what did the Spartans coaching staff say afterwards?

"It was a real good time. I got a lot of feedback and talked with Coach Dantonio once again."

A stickler when it comes to defensive backs, what did the Spartans head coach have to say?

"The exact words from Coach D were to expect an offer. At first he told me he was real close to offering me as he liked what I did out on the field at camp and how I used my hands and stuff. Once we were in his office he said expect an offer in two weeks or so."

What would it me to earn an offer from the Big Ten Champions?

"It would mean a lot because they are in the Big Ten and they have done great things in the past."

One of the things intriguing about Rogers is the possibility of him being able to play two positions in the Spartans defense.

"They see me as a corner or safety, but I'm thinking corner."

One of the things camp allowed Rogers to do was work with Spartans defensive back coach Harlon Barnett. How did that go for Rogers?

"I feel Coach Barnett is a real players coach as he knows what you are talking about. I like Coach Barnett a lot."

So if the Spartans offer what would the next step be?

"Right now I'm still looking at making my decision during the middle of the season or after the season. I like Michigan State a lot. I've been there two times now and I really like the coaches a lot and I like the weight room setting and the strength coach there. I know I would get a lot stronger there."

During his camp trip, Charles had a chance to speak with one of the Spartans all-time greats and some current team members.

"I got a chance to talk with Great Jones as he was working out. I also spoke with Isaiah Lewis and a couple of the other defensive backs. I had spoken with a couple of them when I visited for Junior Day and it was good to talk with them again."

Charles has one more camp to attend and then it's full steam ahead for his senior season.

"I'll camp at Iowa State on July 22 and that will be the last camp. I've been doing all of our team workouts and we'll have those up until we start practice for the season. Then our first game is on August 26."

Will Charles get his Michigan State offer when the coaches return from vacation? will be checking back to get the latest.
