Spartan 66 2011 Ranking #41

The Michigan State Spartans won a share of the Big Ten title in 2010. Last year, SpartanDigest.com looked in-depth at sixty-six Spartans and their importance to the team's success. We look at 66 Spartans as 1966 was the last time MSU won a National Championship. It is now time to look at the #41 ranked Spartan in 2011.

Lawrence Thomas

SD 2011 Ranking : #41

Position: Linebacker / Defensive End

Experience : True Freshman

Strengths : One of the top players in the country coming out of high school. Big, strong and fast.

Weakness : Experience at the college level.

Overall : Thomas enters Michigan State as one of the top prospects in the country and for good reasons. At 6-foot-3, 275-pounds, Thomas is listed as a linebacker early in his career. However, will he be a defensive end before all is said and done? We'll soon learn as the physically gifted Detroit native has high expectations.

Why They Made The List : It is always hard to place true freshmen this high on our list. However, if Thomas is 100% healthy, look out as he is a very gifted player who the Spartans coaching staff will look to place in key spots of a game to make a play.
