Izzo to lead Pan American team this summer

Tom Izzo was named the head coach of the 2003 USA Men's Basketball team in the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This is Izzo's second stint with USA Basketball.

In 2001, Izzo was an assistant for his good friend Flip Saunders, the Minnesota Timberwolves coach, in the Goodwill Games.

This year Izzo, will be the main man, with two other top college basketball coaches serving as assistants: Missouri's Quinn Snyder and Washington's Lorenzo Romar.

The coaches will select 12 players to represent their country in a tryout at the end of May in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Pan-Am games are scheduled to run from Aug. 2-6.
