Position Breakdown: Linebacker

Michigan State hits the midway point with weekend. How has the Spartans performed at linebacker? We break it down.

After going back and looking at the first five games of the season. How has Michigan State looked at linebacker?

Here is how we see it.

Many were worried about how the Spartans would be at linebacker during the 2011 season. However, after five games things look solid for this group of Spartans who may be performing better than any group we've looked at.

Here is how we see the Spartans linebackers.

Max Bullough: The sophomore linebacker is playing the way many expected him to when he arrived on campus. With a team leading 33 total tackles, Bullough continues to grow and improve with each game.

Denicos Allen: After making a mark last season on special teams, Allen made one of the top plays of the college football season against Ohio State with his airborne quarterback sack. However, Allen is doing more than just making spectacular plays, he's tied for second on the team with 25 total tackles including three sacks and 7.5 quarterback hurries.

Chris Norman: Talk of Norman being passed up were a little premature as the junior from Detroit has posted 25 total tackles to go with two sacks and 3.5 quarterback hurries. Norman is playing his best football and any talk of him being passed by only shows the depth Mark Dantonio is building within the program.

The Others

Steve Gardiner continues to develop and Taiwan Jones is a future Spartans star in the making.

Keys: A major key for this group is to stay healthy the remainder of the season. The production is there from the group as a whole and each week should see them improve.
