One-on-One With Garrett Celek

Michigan State senior tight end Garrett Celek spoke with Spartan Digest following Saturday's big win over Michigan.

Garrett Celek knew more about Mark Dantonio than anyone back in December of 2006 when Michigan State hired him away from Cincinnati.

As Celek reaches the midway point of his final season at Michigan State, he knows beating Michigan will be something he'll cherish.

"Four years in a row feels great," said Celek. "One of the biggest games of the year, maybe the biggest and it means a lot. Not only to the guys on the team, but also the fans and everyone who is part of this program."

Like several of his teammates that were on hand for the 2007 game against the Wolverines, Celek knows Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio has made the difference.

"That was a hard game for a lot of people," Celek continued. "We were down at halftime, and then in the third quarter we brought it back before losing in the final minutes. Coach Dantonio made it a point that it would never happen again."

The Spartans tight end knows in time he'll fully understand the importance of beating the Wolverines in his senior season will carry.

"It's going to feel great," said Celek. "I know from the guys who come back who have beaten Michigan their senior years, they just have looks on their faces and how much they love this game, I know in a few years I'm going to look back and know this was a real big accomplishment."

While the win over Michigan was great, Celek knows his days wearing the Green & White are coming to a close. Has it started to sink in that his college career is almost over?

"I didn't realize how quick it would be," said Celek. "When I look back upon it I've got a lot of great memories, but over time it's going to be very special."
