Holmes Enjoyed Spartan Visit

Class of 2013 running back Gerald Holmes visited Michigan State a couple of weekends ago. How did the visit go? We get this and more from the Flint running back.

Despite missing time this fall with an injury, running back Gerald Holmes of Flint (MI) Carman-Ainsworth high school has continued to see college programs show interest in his football skills.

One program Holmes recently visited was Michigan State. How was the game day visit?

"I went to the Michigan State – Minnesota game the other week," Holmes told SpartanDigest.com "It was a real good experience and following the game I had the chance to meet Le'Veon Bell and that was a neat."

While he's been hearing from several programs, Holmes knows an offer from the Spartans would allow him to stay close to home. Has he thought much about how much distance he's looking to travel for college?

"I really don't have one right now and I wouldn't mind going far away," said Holmes. "But I'm really looking for just going to a good team."

Suffering an injury early this season, Holmes fought to get back on the field.

"I didn't come back 100%," said Holmes. "But I came back with a mindset to ignore the pain as I wanted to help my team. I knew I was going to have to play with the pain."

Prior to this season, Holmes found one program looking to make an early impact with a verbal offer.

"I have a verbal offer from Toledo from this summer," Holmes said about the Mid American Conference program.

How much interest have the Spartans shown?

"Not too much right now," said Holmes. "They are still recruiting players for the class of 2012 and they are still evaluating me by looking at my film. But it's been good talking with the coaches and they are staying in touch with me."
